| St. Regis Paper Company Ltd. (the UK's largest paper and board manufacturer and part of DS Smith PLC) has recently taken delivery of their second Nu-Star Power Pusher® unit at their Wansborough Mill site in Watchet, Somerset for pushing their reels of recycled envelope paper and coreboard.
The Power Pusher is a pedestrian operated, battery powered, tug unit designed to push, pull and manoeuvre rolling loads up to 40,000Kg in weight. |
For the Paper industry a bespoke 'reel mover' attachment has been designed by Nu-Star to ensure the unit can push a wide variety of different
circumference
paper reels. Unlike other products on the market, the unit is completely self-contained and there are no trailing wires, cables or air-lines. Adrian Virgin, Plant Engineer at St. Regis Paper (pictured below) first contacted Nu-Star during September 2002 and subsequently purchased the first unit after a trial period.
Adrian explained; "Our paper reels get progressively larger and this has lead to an increased Health & Safety risk if staff try to push the reels manually. The Power Pusher is very easy to use and eliminates the manual effort usually required to move the reels. It's small size and pedestrian operation means it is much safer than a forklift. It's an essential tool and proven very popular with the staff here."
Matthew Smith, Managing Director of Nu-Star commented; "We are delighted that St. Regis have chosen to purchase a second rell mover for their Wansborough Mill. Since launching the reel mover attachment for the Power Pusher in October 2001, the unit has been adopted in a number of UK Paper manufacturing sites as well as sites in the U.S.A. Canada, Australia, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Korea and Sweden."
